Questions and answers about counseling and Cornerstone

What brings people to counseling?
Lots of reasons. A sense that something’s not right. The suggestion of a friend or employer. Concerns about a loved one. A referral from the family doctor. The desire to stop feeling sad, depressed, worried or angry. And the desire to explore issues with an objective listener who has no other agenda than to help do what’s right for you.

What’s your approach to counseling?
Our treatment philosophy is holistically oriented toward the health of the whole person. We believe it’s important to integrate the physical, mental and spiritual unity of the people we counsel. As always, we remain committed to helping clients meet their goals by providing clinical excellence in a caring, supportive and respectful setting.

How do I know if counseling will help?
Our initial assessment session will begin to identify any problems that need to be addressed. We’ll know then how we can help you.

How many sessions will I need?
It’s different for every client, so we won’t really know until after your initial assessment. Really though, the answer is partially up to you, and how committed you are to getting better.

Will my visits be confidential?
Absolutely. We’re very protective of your privacy and won’t release information without your written permission.

When do I pay for services?Amanda's office...ditto.
Payment or co-payment is due at the time of service. Most services are covered by insurance plans and as a courtesy to you, we’ll file your insurance claim. In order to keep our fees lower, we don’t accept credit cards at this time.

How long has Cornerstone been in business?
Cornerstone Psychological Services was established in January 1998 by experienced clinicians with a mission to provide a broad range of psychological services of excellent quality to a diverse group of community members, from preschool children to the elderly.

Do you work with businesses and employees?
It’s a significant part of our practice. We frequently design custom programs to provide assessment, employee assistance and counseling. Cornerstone has provided contract staffing to mental health centers in several surrounding counties and for several years maintained a satellite office to provide counseling services for a business located in Madison, NC. Cornerstone continues to offer Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services for employees of local businesses, including Guilford County Schools, and in 2005 partnered with Alcohol & Drug Services and Youth Focus to provide individual and group counseling for their dual diagnosis clients.

What’s the first step?
You’ve already taken it. Next, we invite you to call us at 336-540-9400 for an initial appointment.
